A Webflow alternative for people who are not designers
By the ContentMetric team · Checked on 17 October 2026

The short answer
If you are not a designer, pick a tool where you describe your business and get a site, not one where you place every box yourself. ContentMetric does that, and on Pro a specialist handles the build and updates. Webflow is better if you or your team design visually. Its paid site plans start at US$15 a month, billed yearly.
We make ContentMetric, so we are not neutral. This page says where Webflow is the better choice. Everything about Webflow below comes from its own pricing page, checked on 17 October 2026.
The short answer
- You are a business owner, not a designer, and want a good site without learning a design tool: ContentMetric, or a similar AI builder. See our comparison.
- You want someone to build and maintain it for you: ContentMetric Pro.
- You have a designer or developer, and need custom layouts and a big content system: stay on Webflow.
- You want visual control in a simpler tool: look at Framer or Squarespace.
Why non-designers look for a Webflow alternative
It is a design tool first
Webflow is a visual builder that produces clean web code. That is a strength for designers and developers. For a business owner, it means you start from a blank canvas and make layout decisions yourself. Webflow offers Webflow University for learning, and an AI feature, but the product is aimed at people who build sites. This is our view, not a Webflow statement.
The price has several parts
A Webflow site plan is priced per site. Webflow also sells Workspace plans, which are the plans for the people who edit. An online store is a further plan on top of the site plan. Add them up before you decide. The next section shows the site plans.
Leaving is not simple
Webflow lets you export your site code and host it elsewhere, but its own notes say dynamic content (your CMS items) is exported collection by collection, forms stop working, and exported code cannot be imported back. More on that below.
What Webflow costs
These are the site plans Webflow lists, in US dollars, per site. Prices marked yearly are per month when billed yearly. Webflow says its prices are in USD, per site, per month, plus taxes.
| Plan | Price | What it gives you |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | Free | A webflow.io address, 2 static pages, 1 GB bandwidth, 50 form submissions, limited CMS |
| Basic | $15 a month, billed yearly | Custom domain, 300 static pages, 10 GB bandwidth, no CMS (it is for simple sites) |
| Premium | $25 a month, billed yearly | Everything in Basic, plus the CMS, more bandwidth, site search and form file upload |
| Ecommerce Standard | $29 a month, billed yearly | 500 ecommerce items, 2% transaction fee |
| Ecommerce Plus | $74 a month, billed yearly | 5,000 ecommerce items, 0% transaction fee |
Webflow also lists a Team plan at US$2,500 a month on an annual contract, an Enterprise plan, and a bigger ecommerce plan (Advanced, $212 a month billed yearly). Most small businesses will not need those.
Where Webflow is better: its free Starter plan is real, its CMS and bandwidth scale to large sites, and it has deep ecommerce and localization options. If you need those, ContentMetric is not the right tool.
What ContentMetric costs
- Free, US$0: 30 credits a month, one site, a contentmetric.com address, a small badge. Not a trial.
- Pro, US$49 a month (US$470 a year): your own domain, 150 credits a month, the badge can be hidden, ten people, and a specialist who designs your site and handles updates.
- Business, US$98 a month (US$940 a year): three sites, 400 credits a month, and the shop.
A credit is one AI change to your site. Pro costs more than Webflow's Basic or Premium site plans. What you are paying for is the specialist and the AI editing, not just hosting. See our pricing.
Webflow and ContentMetric side by side
| Feature | Webflow | ContentMetric |
|---|---|---|
| Free plan | Yes (Starter, webflow.io address) | Yes (contentmetric.com address, small badge) |
| Who builds the site | You or your designer, in a visual design tool | AI builds it from a short description. On Pro, a specialist designs it |
| Cheapest paid site plan | $15 a month, billed yearly | $49 a month on Pro |
| Content system (CMS) | Yes, from Premium, scales to large sites | Blog posts and collections in the editor |
| Edit by chatting with AI | Webflow AI and an MCP server are listed on its plans | Yes, in the editor, and from your own Claude or ChatGPT (beta) on Pro and above |
| Export your code | Yes, HTML and CSS, with a paid Workspace plan | Not documented |
| Online store | Separate ecommerce plans, from $29 a month | A small shop on the Business plan |
When Webflow is the right call
It would be unfair to say Webflow is only for experts who enjoy pain. It is a strong tool when:
- You have a designer or an agency who already works in it, and they will keep the site up to date.
- You need a custom look that no template or AI builder will produce.
- Your site is large, with many articles, case studies or products that share a template.
- You want to hand the finished code to a developer, or host it elsewhere.
If three of those four are true for you, stay. If none are, you are paying for power you will not use, and a simpler tool will get you online sooner.
A simple way to decide
Spend one evening on this. Open Webflow's free Starter plan and try to build your homepage. Then describe the same business to ContentMetric on its Free plan and see what it makes. Compare two things: how long it took, and how much of the result you would be happy to show a customer. Neither costs anything, and you will know more than any comparison page can tell you.
What you can take with you
Webflow's pricing page says you can export your site and host it anywhere with any paid Workspace plan, and that code export gives you clean HTML and CSS files. It also says dynamic content cannot be exported with the code, forms stop working once exported, and exported code cannot be imported back into Webflow.
In practice: your pages and styling can leave. The parts that make the site work, such as blog content in the CMS and contact forms, need rebuilding. Plan for that.
How to move from Webflow to ContentMetric
- Start free. Describe your business and see it as a ContentMetric site. Your Webflow site stays live.
- Copy your words and pictures. Save your page text, blog posts and images from Webflow.
- Move to Pro if you want a specialist to design the new site with your content.
- Connect your domain. Add two DNS records at your registrar and wait from 5 minutes to 48 hours. See how to connect a domain.
- Cancel Webflow once the new site is live and checked. Do not cancel before then.
Questions to ask before you switch
Who will update it?
A site only stays useful if someone changes it. If that someone is you, and you have no design skills, pick the tool that lets you ask for a change in plain words. If it is a designer, Webflow gives them more room.
How big will the site get?
A ten-page business site does not need a large CMS. A site with thousands of articles or products does. Be honest about which you have.
What do you do with forms and posts?
List every form and every blog post on the old site. They are the things that break in a move. After you launch, send a test message through each form.

Common questions
Is Webflow free?
It has a free Starter plan. It gives you a webflow.io address, 2 static pages, 1 GB of bandwidth, 50 form submissions and a limited CMS. A custom domain needs a paid site plan, which starts at $15 a month billed yearly.
Is Webflow good for beginners?
Webflow is built mainly for people who design and build sites. It has lessons on Webflow University, but a business owner who wants a site without learning a design tool will usually find a simpler builder faster. That is our view, not a Webflow statement.
Can I export my Webflow site?
Yes, with a paid Workspace plan you can export clean HTML and CSS and host it anywhere. Webflow says CMS content must be exported collection by collection, forms stop working, and exported code cannot be imported back into Webflow.
What is the cheapest Webflow alternative?
Free plans exist at several builders, including ContentMetric, Durable, B12 and Mixo. For your own domain you will need a paid plan almost everywhere. Our guide to Durable, B12, 10Web and Mixo covers the free options.
