Connect a custom domain

Every site has a free address ending in .contentmetric.com. On Pro and above you can use a domain you own instead, such as yourbusiness.com.

You need to have bought the domain somewhere already. ContentMetric does not sell domains.

Connect it

1. Open Settings for the site from the site menu at the top of the left rail.
2. Go to Domains.
3. Choose the custom domain option and type your domain, for example yourdomain.com.
4. ContentMetric shows you two DNS records: a Type, a Name and a Value for each. Copy them.
5. Sign in where you bought the domain and add both records exactly as shown. The page has links to the instructions for the common registrars.
6. Come back and press Check again.

You can close the page while you wait. ContentMetric keeps checking on its own.

How long it takes

A DNS change takes anywhere from 5 minutes to 48 hours to reach us. That part is your registrar, not ContentMetric. The status on the Domains page moves from Waiting for DNS to live once the records are seen.

HTTPS, the padlock in the browser, is set up for you at no extra cost.

www or no www

Once the domain is live you can choose which address is the main one, and whether the other redirects to it. If you want www to work, add a CNAME record for the www version as well. The Domains page tells you what to point it at.

Common questions

I typed the domain wrong. Press Remove on the domain card and start again. Remove is available at every stage, not just once it is live.

Can I use a domain on the Free plan? No. Custom domains start on Pro. Your free contentmetric.com address keeps working either way.

Will my old free address stop working? No. It keeps working alongside your own domain.
