Connect ChatGPT to your site, step by step

Add your site to ChatGPT once, then ask ChatGPT to read and change it in plain words. Five steps, with a picture of each screen.

Updated 23 Oct 2026

Add your site to ChatGPT once. After that you can ask ChatGPT to read and change this one site, in plain words, from any chat.

Before you start

  • The connector is part of Pro, Business and Enterprise.
  • You need the Editor role on the site (or Admin or Owner).
  • ChatGPT uses your own ChatGPT subscription, not your credits.

The two addresses you need

  • Your site's AI connector URL: https://www.contentmetric.com/api/mcp/your-site. "your-site" is your site's own name, so copy it from the editor in step 1 rather than typing it.
  • Where you add it in ChatGPT: chatgpt.com/plugins, signed in to your ChatGPT account.

The orange ring in each picture marks what to press.

1. Copy your site's address for AI

In the editor, open Settings, then AI & code. Under Connect an AI assistant, press Copy next to the AI connector URL.

2. Add a new server in ChatGPT

Go to chatgpt.com/plugins, or press Plugins in ChatGPT's left sidebar. Press +, then Add custom MCP server.

No plus button? Turn on Developer mode first: in ChatGPT go to Settings, Apps, Advanced settings.

3. Paste the address and create it

  1. Give it a name, for example your site's name.
  2. In MCP server URL, paste the address you copied in step 1.
  3. Keep authentication on OAuth.
  4. Read the notice and tick I understand and want to continue.
  5. Press Create as a plugin.

4. Allow ChatGPT on your site

A ContentMetric tab opens at www.contentmetric.com. Sign in if asked. Check that the site name is the one you meant, choose how long the connection lasts, and press Allow. You are taken back to ChatGPT.

90 days is chosen for you. You can also pick 30 days, 1 year or No expiry. When it ends, ChatGPT asks you to sign in again.

The ContentMetric Allow page: ChatGPT wants to connect, the site name, read and write access, Expires after 90 days, and the Deny and Allow buttons

5. Use it in a chat

Start a new chat at chatgpt.com. Type @ and pick your site's plugin. Then ask in plain words, for example "Change the opening hours on the Contact page to 9am to 6pm, then publish".

A ChatGPT chat with the site's plugin picked after typing @, a request to change the opening hours, and ChatGPT's answer saying it is done

ChatGPT's own screens may look a little different from these pictures and can change.

Keep control

Every app you allowed is listed under Connected AI apps, on the same AI & code page, with when it was last used. Revoke cuts it off straight away. When you remove a teammate, the apps they connected are disconnected too.

Common questions

Do changes from ChatGPT use my credits? No. Credits cover the AI built into ContentMetric. ChatGPT uses your own ChatGPT subscription.

I pressed Allow and nothing happened. Close the tab and press Connect again in ChatGPT. If it happens twice, write to support with the time.

The page says to ask for Editor access. Your role on the site is Viewer. Ask the site owner for the Editor role, then connect again.

ChatGPT asks me to sign in again. The time you chose on the Allow page ended, or someone revoked the connection. Connect again from ChatGPT.
